10:48 p.m. | Updated LOS ANGELES — George Hickenlooper, the film director whose movie “Casino Jack” is set to open in December, died last night in Denver, a publicist for the film said on Saturday. Mr. Hickenlooper was 47.
Liz Biber, the publicist, said that she did not immediately know the cause of death. She said that Mr. Hickenlooper was in Colorado to spend time with a cousin, Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper, who is running for the governor’s office, before attending a film festival in that city (and not the other way around, as this post previously reported). In September, Mr. Hickenlooper had been at the Toronto International Film Festival, where he joined Kevin Spacey, the star of “Casino Jack,” in promoting the film, about the disgraced and convicted lobbyist, Jack Abramoff. Mr. Hickenlooper previously directed the film “Factory Girl,” about the Warhol star Edie Sedgwick, among many other films.
